Boss Fight Entertainment is seeking a skilled Animator to help breathe life into the some of the mobile industry’s most lovable characters.  Do you enjoy building and animating characters?  Do you judge the placement of every joint and worry about the value of every skin weight?  Are you adept at anticipation and skillful at squash and stretch?  If you love solving problems, then we would love to hear from you!

The Animator we seek has experience animating both human and non-humanoid characters, and has a solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, overshoot, follow-through, squash and stretch, forward and inverse kinematics, and other principles of both 2D and 3D animation.  The animator must be well-versed in Maya. The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about making great games.

Responsibilities include:

  • Able to animate humanoid and non-humanoid characters and creatures, both realistic and cartoony
  • Animate props, vehicles, and other non-character assets
  • Have a thorough understanding of painting weights and the skinning process
  • Work closely with Modelers to determine model suitability for rigging
  • Troubleshoot and iterate on rigs during production in a timely manner 
  • Develop and maintain high quality skeletal and facial rigs for a variety of characters and creatures, both realistic and cartoony
  • Develop and maintain high quality rigs for props, vehicles, and other non-character assets

  • Experience using Maya
  • Experience in Rigging and Skinning
  • Exceptional skill in animating the human bipedal figure as well as other organic forms
  • Animate props, vehicles, and other non-character assets
  • A solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, overshoot, follow-through, squash and stretch, forward/inverse kinematics, and other principles of 3D animation
  • A thorough understanding of animation pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers
  • Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
  • Great organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional technical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Able to multi-task and handle multiple projects at the same time

  • Interest in pipeline, process, tools and techniques with a high level understanding of industry standards, conventions, formats and common practice
  • Ability to assist with the design of efficient production pipelines and writing tools to streamline the rigging and animation process

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a mid to high level 3D artist (animating, rigging etc.)
  • Experience setting up/creating animation for real-time game engines

Pluses:

  • College degree and/or some college courses, preferably in the visual arts and/or computer sciences
  • Have a balanced mix of visual aesthetic and tech-art/programming skills
  • Familiarity with Dungeon Boss strongly recommended
  • Skill in one or more of the related character creation tasks -- illustration, modeling, texturing
  • Familiarity with Maya scripting including Mel scripts, Python, PyMel
  • Ability to design efficient production pipelines
  • Writing tools to streamline the rigging and animation process
  • Experience setting up Animation Blend Trees in real-time game engines
  • Familiarity with Unity and C# scripting
  • Outstanding traditional animation skills
